As we all know that the default call rejection feature in Samsung Galaxy S5 can be used to block unwanted or unknown calls as long as the callers have numbers, that's why this feature can't be used to block those who don't have numbers. So, if you wish to not receive any private call or calls from those who hide their phone numbers, you can use a third-party app in the Play Store that has the ability to block private calls. Blocking private calls will set your phone to not notify you when you have incoming calls from those who hide their phone numbers so that you won't be bothered again with them.


How to block private calls or numbers using Blacklist app?
There are some apps in the Play Store that can be used to block private calls. But, as the example, we'll use Blacklist app in the following steps to block private calls:
  1. Download install Blacklist app from the Play Store.
  2. Once the installation process is completed, open the app.
  3. At the first time use, you will be provided with the term of use and privacy policy screen. Tap OK button to continue.
  4. In the main screen of this app, in the Control tab, tap and then tap Blocking numbers.
  5. In the Blacklist tab, tap Private numbers.
  6. Tap End call and then tap Save button.
  7. From now on, any private call will be blocked. FYI, you can still see all blocked private call logs in the call logs in the Phone app or in the blocked logs in the Blacklist app.

An insider ever asked me about how to get an app back to his phone since he couldn't find the app in the apps menu. Well, if you're also experiencing this issue, there are two possibilities that can be the culprit of this issue. If the app is a pre-installed app then it may has been accidentally hidden or disabled, while if the app is a third-party app then it may has been accidentally hidden. Thus, to get the app back to the apps menu, you have to unhide the app if it has been hidden or re-enable the app if it has been disabled.


How to show a hidden app?
If the app has been accidentally hidden, you have to unhide the app to get it back to the apps menu by using the following steps:
  1. In home screen, tap Apps at the bottom right corner of the screen to go to the apps menu.
  2. Tap at the top right or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Show hidden apps.
  3. All hidden apps will be displayed here. If the app you're looking for is listed here, tap the app to select it and then tap Done button.
  4. The selected app will be shown again in the apps menu.


How to re-enable a disabled app?
If the app has been accidentally disabled, you have to re-enable the app to get it back to the apps menu by using the following steps:
  1. In home screen, tap Apps at the bottom right corner of the screen to go to the apps menu.
  2. Tap at the top right or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Show disabled apps.
  3. All disabled apps will be displayed here. If the app you're looking for is listed here, tap the app to select it and then tap Done button.
  4. The selected app will be re-enabled and you should see the app in the apps menu.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Fix Double Notifications When Receiving a New Text Message in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

By default, Samsung Galaxy S5 has been equipped with the stock Messaging app that can be used to send text messages or receive them. But, for some reason, you may want to install a third-party Messaging app in your phone, for instance when the stock Messaging app doesn't have a feature you're looking for. Since you finally have two Messaging apps: the stock Messaging app and a third-party Messaging app, it'll make you get double notifications when receiving a new text message. To fix this issue, there are two ways that you can do: set the third-party Messaging as the default app or disable notification of the stock Messaging app.


How to set a third-party Messaging app as the default app?
By default, you'll be asked to set the third-party Messaging app as the default app once this app is installed. But, in case you skip that step, you can manually set the third-party Messaging app as the default app by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Default applications .
  3. Tap Messages and then select the required third-party Messaging app you want to set as the default.
  4. Tap OK button.
  5. The selected third-party Messaging app has been set as the default app.
  6. From now on, you won't get any notification from the stock Messaging app and will only get notification from the third-party Messaging app you have set as the default when receiving a new text message.

How to disable notification of the stock Messaging app?
FYI, this step may make you miss important alerts and updates of the stock Messaging app. To disable the stock Messaging app notification, you can use one of the following methods:


Method #1: From the app menu
  1. In home screen, tap the Apps icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. It'll bring you to the apps menu.
  2. Find the Messages icon.
  3. Tap and hold the Messages icon and then drag it to the App info icon located at the top of the screen. It'll bring you to the App info screen of the stock Messaging app.
  4. Clear the checkbox in the left side of the Show notifications.
  5. Tap OK button.
  6. The notification of the stock Messaging app has been disabled.
  7. From now on, you won't get any notification from the stock Messaging app and will only get notification from the third-party Messaging app when receiving a new text message.


Method #2: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Application manager .
  3. Swipe the screen from the right to the left to access the ALL screen. All installed apps will be displayed here.
  4. Scroll down to find Messages and then tap it.
  5. Clear the checkbox in the left side of the Show notifications.
  6. Tap OK button.
  7. The notification of the stock Messaging has been disabled.
  8. From now on, you won't get any notification from the stock Messaging app and will only get notification from the third-party Messaging app when receiving a new text message.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Move Downloaded Apps From SD Card Back to Device Storage in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

Samsung Galaxy S5 has several features that can be used to help you keep your device storage has enough free space so that your phone can work properly and doesn't encounter any error caused by low internal storage, one of those features is the ability to move downloaded apps to the SD card. It'll be helpful especially if you have a lot of downloaded apps in your phone. However, certain app may not work properly after it has been moved to the SD card. So, if you're encountering this issue, you can try to fix it by moving the app back to the device storage.


How to move a downloaded app from the SD card back to the device storage?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then select Application manager .
  3. Swipe the screen from the right to the left to access the SD CARD tab. All downloaded apps that can be moved to the SD card will be displayed here. FYI, if the checkbox in the right side of an app is checked means the app has been moved to the SD card.
  4. Tap the required app that you want to move from the SD card back to the device storage.
  5. Tap Move to device storage button.
  6. The selected application has been successfully moved from the SD card back to the device storage.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Enable or Disable Mobile Data From Home Screen in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

A couple weeks back, an insider named Chantal sent me an email and asked me a way to add mobile data button to her Samsung Galaxy S5 home screen. However, since Samsung Galaxy S5 doesn't have the default option or widget to let you turn on or off mobile data from home screen, then you need to install a third-party mobile data widget app from the Play Store to do so. To make it clearer, as the example, we'll use the mobile enabler widget app to let you turn on or off the mobile data from home screen.


How to turn on or off mobile data from home screen by utilizing data enabler widget?
Before doing this steps, make sure you have an empty space in your home screen. See the following steps to install the data enabler widget and then add it to home screen so that you can use it to quickly enable or disable your mobile data connection:
  1. Open Play Store app.
  2. Find the Data Enabler Widget app and then install it into your phone.
  3. Once the installation is completed, the data enabler will be added to your widgets list.
  4. Press the Home key to go to your home screen.
  5. Long press the Recent apps key or long tap in a blank area of the home screen and then tap Widgets .
  6. Find the Data Enabler 1x1 widget.
  7. Tap and hold the widget and then drag it to the home screen.
  8. Release the widget to place it on home screen.
  9. Now, you can quickly turn on or off your mobile data connection simply by single tapping the data enabler widget on home screen. The arrow icon within the widget turns white when it's enabled.

If you are not satisfied with the stock keyboard or can't find a keyboard feature that you're looking for, you will probably install a third-party keyboard app from the Play Store or other sources. Luckily, you are allowed to have more than one keyboard apps in your Samsung Galaxy S5 and can switch between them with ease by changing the input mode so that you can use the required one according to your need.


How to change input method?
Generally, there are two methods available, either from the settings menu or when you're entering texts, that can be used to change the input method so that you can switch between installed keyboard apps in your phone.


Method #1: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the System section and then tap Language and input .
  3. Tap Default and then select the required keyboard you want to use.
  4. The selected keyboard will be applied and ready to be used to enter texts.


Method #2: When entering texts
FYI, this method can be applied in any app or screen where you can use keyboard to enter texts. As the example, we'll change the input method when composing a new text message in Messaging app:
  1. Open Messaging app and then tap to create a new text message.
  2. If necessary, tap the Enter message field to display the keyboard.
  3. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap Choose input method in the Notifications section.
  4. Now, select the required keyboard you want to use.
  5. The selected keyboard will be applied and ready to be used to enter texts.

When you have multiple keyboard apps, the ability to change the input method will let you to use the one that best suit your need with ease. So, how about you? How many keyboard apps do you have?

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Move an App to the SD Card in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

If you have a bunch of downloaded apps in your phone and don't want your internal storage runs out because of those apps then you can move them to the SD card. Since a low internal storage can trigger some errors on your phone then move apps to the SD card will be able to help you free up some space in your internal storage so that it will have enough space to make the device remains work well.


How to move an application to the SD card?
Generally, there are two methods available that can be used to move a downloaded app to the SD card, from the apps menu and from the application manager.


Method #1: From the Apps menu
This method allows you to move an app to the SD card easily from the apps menu, but you have to remember that not all downloaded apps can be moved to the SD card. If the button to move an app to SD card is disabled then it means the app can't be moved. See the following steps to move an app to the SD card from the apps menu:
  1. Tap Apps in Home screen.
  2. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional options and then select Downloaded apps.
  3. Tap and hold the required app you want to move to the SD card and then drag it to the app info icon located at the top of the screen.
  4. In the App info screen, tap Move to SD card button.
  5. The selected app will be moved to the SD card.


Method #2: From the Application manager
Aside from letting you move an app to the SD card with ease, this method also lets you to know which apps have been moved to the SD card and which have not been. See the following steps to move an app to the SD card from the application manager:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel.
  2. Tap to go to the settings menu.
  3. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Application manager .
  4. Swipe the screen from right to the left to see the SD CARD tab. All downloaded apps that can be moved to the SD card will be displayed here. FYI, if the checkbox in the right side of an app is ticked means the app has been moved to the SD card.
  5. Tap the required app you want to move to the SD card.
  6. Tap Move to SD card button.
  7. The selected app will be moved to the SD card.

As a note, if an app doesn't work properly once it is moved to the SD card, then try to move it back to the internal storage. If it still didn't do the trick, uninstall the app and then re-install it again.

In some cases, you may need to uninstall an app or two from your phone, for instance when an app has triggered errors on your phone and it can't be fixed by updating the app, or when you want to clean up your phone storage from unused apps to free up some space so that your phone can work properly and avoid errors caused by low internal storage.


How to uninstall an app?
Generally, there are four methods available that can be used to uninstall third-party apps from your phone.


Method #1: From the Play Store
This method allows you to uninstall any app that you have downloaded from the Play Store with ease. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Open Play Store app.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen to open up the Play store menus.
  3. Tap My apps.
  4. Tap INSTALLED tab to see all installed apps in your phone.
  5. Tap the required app you want to uninstall.
  6. Tap UNINSTALL button.
  7. Tap OK button.
  8. The selected app will be uninstalled.


Method #2: From the Galaxy Apps
This method allows you to uninstall any app that you have downloaded from the Galaxy Apps with ease. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Open Galaxy Apps.
  2. Tap located at the top left of the screen to open up the menus.
  3. Tap Purchased.
  4. Tap All tab.
  5. Tap the required app you want to uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall button.
  7. Tap OK button.
  8. The selected app will be uninstalled.


Method #3: From the Apps menu
This method allows you to uninstall any installed third-party app that is displayed in the apps menu. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Tap Apps in Home screen.
  2. Tap and then select Downloaded apps.
  3. From here you can uninstall an app by using one of the three following ways:
  4. I. Using the uninstall menu:
    • Tap and then select Uninstall.
    • Tap the required app you want to uninstall.
    • Tap Uninstall button.
    • The selected app will be uninstalled.
    II. Using the uninstall icon:
    • Tap and hold the required app you want to uninstall and then drag it to the Uninstall icon located at the top of the screen.
    • Tap Uninstall button.
    • The selected app will be uninstalled.
    III. Using the App info icon:
    • Tap and hold the required app you want to uninstall and then drag it to the App info icon located at the top of the screen.
    • If necessary, you can perform clear cache by tapping Clear cache button.
    • If necessary, you can also perform clear data by tapping Clear data button and then tap OK button.
    • Tap Uninstall button.
    • Tap OK button.
    • The selected app will be uninstalled.


Method #4: From the Application manager
This method allows you to uninstall any third-party app installed in your phone, either those from Play Store/Galaxy Apps or those from unknown sources. See the following steps to do so:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel.
  2. Tap to go to the settings menu
  3. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Applications section and then tap Application manager .
  4. In the Downloaded tab you'll see all downloaded apps that can be uninstalled.
  5. Tap the required app you want to uninstall.
  6. If necessary, you can perform clear cache by tapping Clear cache button.
  7. If necessary, you can also perform clear data by tapping Clear data button and then tap OK button.
  8. Tap Uninstall button.
  9. Tap OK button.
  10. The selected app will be uninstalled.

As a note, uninstalling apps can help you to fix error or clean up your storage, but you'd better read the description and the review of an app first before installing it into your phone because it'll help you to make sure that the app has a feature you're looking for to prevent you installing an unused app and also to make sure that the app has a good review to prevent you installing an app that might cause errors on your phone.

Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Update Applications in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat

In some cases, an installed third-party app can make the phone experiences errors. A bug in the app may be the culprit of the problem. Always update app is a thing that can be done to minimize errors caused by installed third-party apps. In the newest version, the app usually get some improvements or new features to provide the user with a better performance and some fixes for any bug/issue that has been found in the previous version.


How to update apps automatically?
You can set your phone to update any installed app automatically when a new version is available by using the following steps:
  1. Open Play Store app.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen to open up the Play store menus.
  3. Tap SETTINGS.
  4. Tap Auto-update apps and then select from the following options:
    • Do not auto-update apps: select this option to turn off auto update apps feature. If you choose this option, you can update an app manually when the new version is available.
    • Auto-update apps at any time. Data charge may apply: select this option to set your phone to update apps automatically when you have an internet connection, either from Wi-Fi or mobile data. FYI, it'd better if you have unlimited data plan when you choose this option to avoid large data usage.
    • Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only: select this option to set your phone to update apps automatically only when you're connected with a Wi-Fi network.


How to update apps manually?
If you have decided to turn off auto update apps in your phone, then you still be able to update them manually when the new version is available by using the following methods:

Method #1: From the notification panel
By default, you'll receive a notification when there's a new version of an app is available. When you receive the notification, then you can update the app manually by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel.
  2. Tap the update apps notification.
  3. You'll be redirected to the My apps menu in the Play Store.
  4. All apps with available updates will be listed under Updates section.
  5. Updating a single app:
    • Tap the required app.
    • Tap UPDATE button.
    • Tap ACCEPT button.
    • The selected app will be updated.
  6. Updating all apps:
    • Tap UPDATE ALL button.
    • All apps under Updates section will be updated.

Method #2: From the Play Store
In case you didn't receive notification of available update, you can manually update the required apps directly from the Play Store app by using the following steps:
  1. Open Play Store.
  2. Tap located at the top left corner of the screen to open up the play store menus.
  3. Tap My apps.
  4. Tap INSTALLED tab to view all installed apps in your phone.
  5. All apps with available updates will be listed under Updates section.
  6. Updating a single app:
    • Tap the required app.
    • Tap UPDATE button.
    • Tap ACCEPT button.
    • The selected app will be updated.
  7. Updating all apps:
    • Tap UPDATE ALL button.
    • All apps under Updates section will be updated.

As a note, aside from always updating app, read the description and review before installing an app can help to prevent you install an app with bad reviews that might cause errors on your phone.
