Samsung Galaxy S5: How to Enable Location Tags Feature in Camera App in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

The stock Camera app comes with several useful features, one of which is the location tags. When you enable this feature, each picture taken with the stock Camera app will be attached with a GPS location tag. But, you have to remember that since these pictures contain with location information, make sure you use caution when you send, share, distribute or copy them.


How to enable the location tags feature in the stock Camera app?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open the stock Camera app. If you'd like to speed up the way to access the stock Camera app, you can enable the camera shortcut on the lock screen.
  2. Tap at the top left to open up the settings menu of the stock Camera app.
  3. Scroll down the menu and then tap Location tags .
  4. A pop up window contains with information about the location tags feature is displayed on your screen. Tap OK button to continue.
  5. Since the location tags feature works by utilizing the location service, if it's disabled, you'll be brought to the Location menu and asked to enable it. You can enable it by sliding the ON/OFF switch to the right and then tap Agree button if you'd like to improve location accuracy. You will need to press the Back key to return to the Camera app.
  6. The location tags feature has been enabled.
  7. From now on, each picture taken with the stock Camera app will be attached with the geographical location data.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Fix S Voice Hands Free Mode Turn On Automatically By Itself in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

A couple days back, an insider named Francois sent me an email to ask me why S Voice hands free mode in his Samsung Galaxy S4 ran with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat automatically turned on by itself. It's quite annoying for him since he had to turn off S Voice hands free mode manually several times a day. After some further investigations, I figure out that S Voice hands free mode will be turned on automatically if we are connected to the Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth device that we, may have accidentally, set as the method to recognize location for the car profile within My places menu. Given to that fact, to stop S Voice hands free mode automatically turn on by itself, we have to set none as the method for the car profile within My places menu.

Disclaimer: the steps and the screenshot within this post are written or taken based on my Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. But, I can confirm that it can also be used to fix the same problem in Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat.

How to turn off method for the car profile within My places menu?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notifications panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap More tab.
  3. Tap Location.
  4. If needed, scroll the screen to the very bottom and then tap My places.
  5. Tap Car.
  6. Tap Wi-Fi (in case you have set a Wi-Fi network as the method for car profile in My places menu).
  7. Tap None and then tap OK button.
  8. Tap Save button to save the changes.
  9. Done. Now, S Voice hands free mode won't turn on automatically by itself.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Make the Weather Widget to Auto Update

Accu weather is the stock weather widget that you can find in the primary Home screen on Samsung Galaxy SIII. This widget will provide you information about the temperature and weather forecast on your location. For the personal need, you can change the preferred temperature unit you wish to use, either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

In addition to change the temperature unit, in this widget you can also determine how often the widget to refresh the information. There are several auto refresh option that you can choose which best suit you.


How to change weather widget auto refresh?
Below are the steps you need to do to determine the frequency of the weather widget updating the information:
  1. Tap the Weather widget on your Home screen.
  2. Tap the Menu key then select Settings.
  3. Tap Widgets.
  4. Tap Auto refresh.
  5. Now you'll see some option available on pop up menu, they are:
    • None
    • Every 1 hour: choose this option to make your weather widget refreshing the information for every one hour.
    • Every 3 hours: choose this option to make your weather widget refreshing the information for every 3 hours.
    • Every 6 hours: choose this option to make your weather widget refreshing the information for every 6 hours.
    • Every 12 hours: choose this option to make your weather widget refreshing the information for every 12 hours.
    • Every 24 hours: choose this option to make your weather widget refreshing the information for every 24 hours.
  6. Tap the required auto refresh option you wish to use. When the dot indicator next the option shows green means the option is selected.
  7. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

FYI, you can also manually refresh the weather widget by tapping the auto refresh icon located at the bottom right corner of this widget. Also, you should remember that the frequency of auto refresh weather widget may cost some data plan. In other words, more shorter the auto refresh frequency means more data will be used. So, which auto refresh option do you use?

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Change Weather Widget from Celsius to Fahrenheit

When you first turn on your Samsung Galaxy SIII, generally you'll find the stock weather widget was installed on your primary Home screen. You can use this widget to obtain the information about temperature and weather forecast on your current location. But, first of all you need to enable location services on your phone to make this widget works.

As another apps and widgets installed in this phone, you can also customize this Accu weather widget to suit your needs, such as change the preferred temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit or vice versa.


How to change weather widget from Celsius to Fahrenheit or Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Below are the complete steps to do:
  1. On your primary Home screen, tap Accu weather widget.
  2. Tap the Menu key then select Settings.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Tap Unit.
  5. Depending on your current settings, tap Unit to change from Celsius to Fahrenheit or vice versa. When the dot indicator next the option shows green means the option is selected.
  6. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

Some countries use Celsius to explain the temperature and the other countries use Fahrenheit. So, by knowing how to change the temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit or vice versa then you can set it according to your needs.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Select Favourite Location as Destination in Navigation Applications

If you used to find certain location using maps application in Samsung Galaxy SIII and have some location you loved to visit, then it will be much easier for you to access them if you set them as favourite location.

Later, you can accessing all the favourite location you already saved on maps through navigation apps. This of course will helpfull because you don't need to enter destination to find them, just pick up one of them from the list and you'll get the plan route and navigation guidance.


How to set favourite location as destination in navigation apps?
Below are the steps to do so:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Navigation.
  3. Slide your finger to the right.
  4. Now you'll see all your saved favourite locations are displayed on the screen.
  5. Tap the required favourite location you wish to use as destination.
  6. Now you'll see the navigation windows is displayed with information about your route to the destination.
  7. The Next turn icon and the Next route detail icon will be displayed at the top of the screen and the time needed to go to the destination will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
  8. You can following the voice guided or instructions displayed on the screen to go to your destination.
  9. To exit Navigation, tap the Back key then press OK button.
  10. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

Adding some locations to the favourite list of course will help you to access them more faster and easier.

Google Maps application is one of the apps that has navigation function that you can find inside Samsung Galaxy SIII. You can utilize this apps to find certain location once you've enabled the location services on your phone.

In addition to find certain location, you can also utilizing this apps to plan route to certain location. By doing this, you'll get the information about how far the distance, the time needed and the suggested route to get to your destination.


How to plan route in Google maps?
To do so kindly follow the steps listed below:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Maps.
  3. Find your destination by using the Search icon.
  4. Once you've find your destination, tap the information field above your destination then tap the Direction icon.
  5. Tap the mode of transportation icon that you use, if you use the car then tap the car icon.
  6. Tap GET DIRECTIONS button.
  7. Now you'll see in the map your current location and your destination will be connected with the blue line as the suggested route. Above the maps, you can see the information about the name, the distance and the suggested route of your destination.
  8. Drag two fingers together to zoom in and drag them apart to zoom out.
  9. To clear the maps, tap the Menu key then select Clear Map.
  10. Tap Home button to exit the maps and return to the standby mode.

By knowing how to plan route to certain location using Google maps, now you can estimate how long and how far you should take, also to know which way is advisable to get to the destination faster and easier.

Google maps is one of pre-installed apps that you can find inside Samsung Galaxy SIII. You can utilize this apps as navigation tool which will enable to help you to find certain location.

Adding some destinations to the favourite of course will make you more easier if you want to go to these locations and get the information using Google maps apps.

One of the way that you can do to allow your phone knowing your current location is by setting the location services on your Samsung Galaxy SIII. There are four methods available that can be used by your phone to determine your location data.

Once you've finished setting your location services on your phone, now your location information will be available on other function in the phone. One of which is on navigation function. You can utilize this function in Google maps apps to find certain location.


How to find location on Google maps?
You can use this function as substitute of traditional maps by utilizing navigation function in Google maps to find your destination. To do so kindly follow the steps listed below:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Maps.
  3. To find certain location, tap the Search icon located at the bottom left corner.
  4. Enter the required destination in search field box, then you will see a list of result matching with your search term.
  5. Tap the required destination from the list.
  6. Now you'll see your destination was pointed on the map and equipped with the information field.
  7. Drag two fingers together to zoom in and drag them apart to zoom out.
  8. To clear the maps, tap the Menu key then select Clear Map.

In order to make your phone knowing your current locations, then the first thing to do is by setting the location services. There are four options available under location services menu that you can choose which best suit you.

Once you've finished setting the location services, now your location information will be available for other functions on your phone, such as to provide you weather information.


How to display or hide weather information on lock screen?
You can choose whether to display or not the weather information on your lock screen by following the steps listed below:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Scroll to Settings, then tap on it.
  3. Scroll to Lock screen, then tap on it.
  4. Tap Lock screen option.
  5. Depending on your current settings, slide the slider next to Weather option to enable or disable this option. When the slider next to this option is in the right side or shows green means the phone will show the weather information on the lock screen.
  6. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

If you choose to enable this option, then once your phone is locked you'll see weather information will turn up there showing the temperature and your current location.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Change Location Services

When you activate your Google account on your Samsung Galaxy SIII, in one of the steps you will be prompted to activate location and Google search to allow Google improving search result and other services using your location data.

In addition to the location and Google search, there are some option available on this phone that you can choose to determine your location, such as by using Wi-Fi, satellite-based GPS or sensor-based GPS.


How to customize GPS settings?
You can choose to turn on one or more positioning methods on this phone. To do so kindly follow the steps listed below:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Scroll to Settings, then tap on it.
  3. Tap Location services.
  4. Now you will see four options available on the screen. They are:
    • Use wireless networks: choose this option if you want the phone determine your location by using Wi-Fi network and/or mobile network.
    • Use GPS satellites: choose this option is you want the phone determine your exact location by using GPS satellites. This methods requires a clear view of the sky to work well.
    • Use sensor aiding: choose this option if you want to use sensors to find your exact location more easily when you're in a weak GPS signal area, such as when indoors. This option will only available if you have enabled Use GPS satellites.
    • Location and Google search: choose this option to allow Google use your location information to get improved search result and other Google services.
  5. Activate one or more the location services you wish to use by tapping the required option. If the checkbox next to the option is ticked means the option is turned on.
  6. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

The information about your location collected by these option will be available on the other functions on your phone, such as search functions, weather forecast and navigation. Also by knowing how to select one or more location services, now you can choose to use which best suit you. So, which location service do you use?
