If needed, you can manually adjust the screen brightness in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge so you can fit it with your need, as the example, you can set it darker while you're using your phone in low-light environment or when your eyes are sensitive with light, you can set it brighter while you're using your phone in outdoor or under the sunlight, etc. If needed, you can also set your phone to automatically adjust the screen brightness using its sensor based on the remaining charge in the battery if you want to save more power because it'll reduce the maximum brightness of the screen so the screen will consume less power.


How to adjust the screen brightness?
As the example, we'll do so by using two different methods: from the notification panel and from the settings menu.

Method #1: From the Notification panel
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel.
  2. Depending on your current settings, tap the box above Auto to enable or disable the Automatic brightness feature. When the box is checked, means this feature is enabled and your phone will automatically adjust the screen brightness using the sensor.
    FYI, when this feature is enabled, the screen will be dimmer because the maximum brightness of the screen is reduced.
  3. To adjust the screen brightness manually, slide the screen brightness adjustment bar to the left for a darker screen, or to the right for a brighter screen.

Method #2: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Display and then tap it.
  3. Depending on your current settings, tap the box above Auto to enable or disable the Automatic brightness feature. When the box is checked, means this feature is enabled and your phone will automatically adjust the screen brightness using the sensor.

Negative colors is one of accessibility features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you invert the screen's colors so the dark colors will dominate it. You can use this feature as a night mode where the background will be in black and the text will be in white so you can easily read what's on the screen in low-light situations and prevent eye strain if you're very sensitive with light. This feature can also be used as an alternative way to conserve more battery power because using darker colors consume less power than brighter ones. As a note, this feature effects the screen only, in other words, all photos, videos, or screenshots taken while the negative colors feature is enabled will be saved in normal colors.


How to enable the negative colors feature?
As the example, we'll do so by using two different methods: from the settings menu and from the direct access menu.

Method #1: From the settings menu
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Accessibility and then tap it.
  3. Tap Vision.
  4. Scroll down the screen and then slide the ON/OFF switch next to Negative colors to the right to enable this feature and invert the colors on your phone's screen.

Method #2: From the direct access menu
If you have enabled the direct access feature and selected Negative colors, you can use the following steps to quickly enable the negative colors feature from the direct access menu:
  1. On any screen, press the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Negative colors.
  2. The negative colors feature is enabled and the colors on your phone's screen will be inverted.

Grayscale is one of accessibility features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that can be used to turn everything on your phone's screen to black and white. Using this feature can help you save more battery power, read what's on the screen with more easily when you are in a dark/low-light environment or have certain vision difficulty. As a note, this feature effects the screen only, in other words, all photos, videos, and screenshots taken while the grayscale mode is enabled will be saved in full-color.


How to enable the grayscale mode?

Method #2: From the direct access menu
If you have enabled the direct access feature and selected Grayscale, you can use the following steps to quickly enable the grayscale mode from the direct access menu:
  1. On any screen, press the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Grayscale.
  2. The grayscale mode is enabled and everything shown in the screen will be turned to black and white.

By default, your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will automatically turn off the screen backlight when the current screen timeout is over. As the example, if the screen timeout is set to 30 seconds, means your phone will wait for 30 seconds of inactivity before turning off the screen backlight. When needed, you can adjust the screen timeout to a shorter period if you want to save more battery life or to a longer period for convenient usage.


How to adjust the screen timeout?

  3. Tap Screen timeout and then select from the following options:
    • 15 seconds
    • 30 seconds
    • 1 minute
    • 2 minutes
    • 5 minutes
    • 10 minutes
  4. The screen timeout has been adjusted.

Ultra power saving mode is an enhanced power saving mode that can be used to extend your battery power so you can use your phone longer, even when the battery level is low. When ultra power saving mode is enabled, your phone will save battery power by changing the color of the screen to grayscale, applying a simplified home screen, restricting app usage to only essential and selected apps, turning off mobile data when the screen is off, turning off connectivity features, etc.


How to enable ultra power saving mode?
You can turn on this feature by using the following steps:
  1. Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to the System section and then tap Battery.
  3. Tap Ultra power saving mode.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable ultra power saving mode.
  5. Ultra power saving mode will be enabled.


How to use ultra power saving mode?
When you're in ultra power saving mode, you can do the following actions:
  1. Add apps to the home screen.
    By default, you're provided with three essential apps in the home screen(they're likely: Internet app, Messages app and Phone app). But, when needed you can add up to 3 apps to the home screen by using these steps:
    • Tap .
    • Select the required app.
    • The selected app will be added to the home screen.
  2. Remove apps that have been added by you from the home screen.
    When needed, you can remove unused or unwanted apps from the home screen by using these steps:
    • Tap More at the top right and then select Remove.
    • Tap at the required apps you want to remove.
    • Tap OK button.
    • The selected apps will be removed from the home screen
  3. Using apps.
    You can use apps in the home screen, either default apps or those selected by you. But, some options or features in those apps may not available in order to extend the battery power.
  4. Adjust the settings.
    When needed, you can adjust the settings of your phone by using these steps:
    • Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
    • Here you can adjust the required settings, e.g., turn on or off Wi-Fi, turn on or off Bluetooth, turn on or off airplane mode, turn on or off mobile networks, turn on or off location, adjust the device's volume and vibration, and adjust the screen brightness.
  5. View the battery power information.
    The information of your battery percentage and estimated usage time remaining will be displayed at the bottom of the home screen. This will show you how many days or hours your battery will run out when your phone is in standby mode.


How to disable ultra power saving mode?
You can turn off this feature by using the following steps:
  1. Tap More at the top right and then select Turn off ultra power saving mode.
  2. Ultra power saving mode will be disabled.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge comes with some features that you can use to conserve more battery power, one of which is the power saving mode. You can manually activate this feature whenever you want or set your phone to automatically activate this feature when the remaining battery power reaches certain level.   3. Tap Power saving mode.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to enable the power saving mode. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
  5. If needed, you can set when your phone has to activate power saving mode by tapping Start power saving and then select Immediately(this option is enabled by default), At 5% battery power, At 15% battery power, At 20% battery power, or At 50% battery power. As the example, if you select At 15% battery power, your phone will automatically activate power saving mode when the remaining battery power reaches 15%.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge comes with some features that can be used to save more battery, one of which is the screen timeout feature. You can use this feature to adjust the length of the idle time that should be waited by your phone before turning off the screen backlight. As the example, if you set the screen timeout to 30 seconds, means your phone will automatically turn off the screen backlight after 30 seconds of inactivity.

  4. The screen timeout has been adjusted. FYI, if you concern with your battery life, you can set the screen timeout to a shorter period because it'll save more power as your phone doesn't have to keep the screen backlight on for a longer period.

For some reason, you may need to keep connecting your phone to Wi-Fi network so that you can stay connected to the internet without having to be interrupted or disconnected each time the phone goes to sleep. If that so, you need to set the Wi-Fi sleep option to always connect to Wi-Fi network even when the screen is off.


How to keep Wi-Fi remains on during sleep?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the Network connections section and then tap Wi-Fi .
  3. If the Wi-Fi is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on.
  4. Tap or long press the Recent apps key to open up the additional option and then select Advanced.
  5. Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep and then select Always.
  6. Now, unless you turn off the Wi-Fi connection manually, your phone will continue connecting to Wi-Fi network even when the screen is off.

As a note, install a third-party power saver app or battery saver app can disconnect the Wi-Fi connection automatically even when you have set your phone to always keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. Thus, uninstall the app should be able to fix this issue.

To help you know your battery level with ease, aside from providing you with the default battery icon, Samsung Galaxy S5 also provides you with a feature that will let you to display the battery percentage on the status bar so that you can easily and quickly know your battery level. I myself always keep this feature on since it's easier for me to know how much the battery left is by reading the percentage than seeing the battery icon.


How to display the battery percentage on the status bar?
There are two different methods that can be used to turn on the option to display battery percentage on the status bar: from the settings menu and from the S Finder.


Method #1: From the settings menu
You can enable the option to display the battery percentage from the general settings menu by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. With the settings menu is displayed in grid view, scroll down to the System section and then tap Battery .
  3. Check the box next to Display battery percentage to enable it.
  4. The battery percentage will be displayed beside the battery icon on the status bar.


Method #2: From the S Finder
You can enable the option to display the battery percentage from the S Finder by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap the S Finder button.
  2. Key in "display battery percentage" in the search field and the tap to start searching.
  3. In the search result page under the Settings section, check the box next to Display battery percentage to enable it.
  4. The battery percentage will be displayed beside the battery icon on the status bar.
